For this reason I too, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exists among you and your love for all the saints, do not cease giving thanks for you, while making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him.God wants us to know Him. 1 Corinthians 13:12 says, "For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known."
God knows every aspect of our lives. We have no secrets from Him. He knows the number of hairs on our head. And we are promised that we will know fully as we have been fully known. When we stand before the Father, we will know Him.
Unfortunately, as long as we are in this fleshly body, we can't know Him fully, but we can grow in our knowledge of Him.
One way to grow in knowledge of God is through Bible study. As you study, do so with a prayerful attitude and He will reveal Himself you with insights in to His word, and His character. Of course, you can study the Bible as a purely intellectual exercise and learn about God, just as you can study a history book and learn about Abraham Lincoln. There have been many theologians over the years who have studied the Scriptures, but never proclaimed faith in Jesus as Lord.
In order to know Him, you must come to Him in faith.
If you want to get to know someone, you need to spend time with him. It's the same with God. We call it prayer, but prayer is really just talking with God; telling Him our thoughts and concerns and taking the time to quiet our minds and listen for Him to speak to our spirits. Jesus said, "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me" [John 10:27 NASB].
Jesus said, “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” [John 4:24 NASB]. The only way to know God is in the spirit.
If you are a believer in Jesus, then the Holy Spirit lives in you. "Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?" [1 Corinthians 6:19 NASB]. He lives within you, speaking to you, giving you wisdom, and revealing Himself to you.
He asks only that you come to Him in faith, and ask.
